What's in the name?

Bexar /ber/

Bexar is the name of the Texas county where the company was founded. The   

Historians track Bexar to an old Moorish fort Bejar.  Bexar County was created on December 20, 1836. The county was named for San Antonio de Béxar, one of the 23 Mexican municipalities of Texas at the time of its independence.

Texas License To Carry (LTC)

About the Course

This course is the state required prerequisite for applying for a Texas License To Carry (LTC) – formerly Concealed Handgun License (CHL). The course includes classroom presentation of the LTC laws and guidelines, the required shooting test, and completion of the required paperwork. This is a 4-6 hour training course as required by state law.  The pace of the course is determined by the size of the class and engagement of participants.  Basic knowledge and skills are required for this course.



Texas LTC Training Course Fee Includes:

  • 4-hour classroom instruction  (4 hours does not include time on the range or breaks.  Total time for course is 6 hours)
  • Range qualification & Range fee
  • B-27 Target
  • Certificate of Completion (Form LTC-100)

Tuition Does Not Include:

  • Fingerprints 
  • Ammunition (50 Rounds Minimum)·  
  • State of Texas LTC Application Fees
  • Handgun.  If needed, handguns may be reserved in advance.  Handgun reservations are available through the online store.


Texas LTC Application

To submit an online LTC application, visit the Texas Department of Public Safety website at: https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/txapp/txdps/chl/.  Simply follow the instructions on the site.  Participants don’t have to do this before the class; however, it is encouraged. 


What You Need

  • Valid driver license or identification card,
  • Current demographic, address, contact, and employment information,
  • Residential and employment information for the last five years (new users only),
  • Information regarding any psychiatric, drug, alcohol, or criminal history,
  • Valid email address, and
  • Valid credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express)
    ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE

Steps to Get a Texas LTC/CHL

Step 1: Eligibility

See Texas Government Code for details: GC §411.172. ELIGIBILITY.

Step 2: Complete LTC Class

Step 3: Apply to Texas DPS

Apply Online: https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/ltc/

Step 4: Submit Fingerprints

Step 5: Gather LTC Supporting Documents

Step 6: Submit Supporting Documents to Texas DPS

Step 7: Wait

Once applicant has completed the LTC course, submitted all required documentation and paid all fees, the Texas DPS will process the application and notify the applicant by mail if further information or additional documents are required.  If application is processed and approved a license will be issued.
